Porto

defender Felipe Monteiro has emerged as a surprise target for Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the football transfer rumours in Portuguese Media, Real Madrid are targeting Porto defender Felipe Monteiro.

Felipe Monteiro has joined Porto from Corinthians for a fee in the region of 6.2 million euros in July 2016. The 27 year-old has a valid contract with Porto until June 2021.

Since his arrival from Corinthians, Felipe Monteiro has scored three goals and provided one assists in 38 games for Porto in all competitions this season.

The 27-year-old is considered to be one of the best defenders in Brazil.

The Brazil international is a player who has impressed many European Clubs this season, and it is understood that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane would prefer playing him as a central defender. Felipe Monteiro could be perfect replacement for Pepe if the Portugal international leaves in the summer.

Euro Football Rumours understood that the Brazil international and representatives from Real Madrid have already agreed personal terms, but a transfer fee is yet to be settled with the Portugal giant.

How strong that interest is and whether Real Madrid will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
