Real Madrid join the hunt for Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong

Spanish source claim that Real Madrid have joined the hunt for Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The 21-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Netherlands international joined Ajax from Willem II for a fee in the region of 1 million euros in August 2015. His contract expires in the summer of 2022.
Frenkie de Jong has played 47 times for Ajax since signing from Willem II, scoring two goals and creating nine assists in that time.
The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Netherlands.
Frenkie de Jong has represented Netherlands at Under-15, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 22 caps and scoring two goals, before making his senior international debut in September 2018. As a member of Netherlands national football team, De Jong won two caps.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Real Madrid.
Real Madrid have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.
The Netherlands international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of midfield player Julen Lopetegui wants to target in the winter transfer window.
Frenkie de Jong has the talent to play many roles in midfield.
According to Football Espana, “Real Madrid have reportedly joined the race to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona. El Desmarque cite a report in OK Diario that Madrid have scouted the Dutchman and rate him rightly, potentially seeing him as an upgrade to Mateo Kovacic, currently on loan at Chelsea. Earlier this week, El Mundo Deportivo cited English club Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder, whom they were prepared to pay €50m for.”
