Newcastle United eyeing move for Sporting young midfielder Manuel Ugarte

Manuel Ugarte’s time at Sporting CP could soon end as a whole host of clubs are lining up to sign him.

As per British media, Newcastle United are eyeing move for Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

He only joined Sporting CP from Famalicão in 2021 for 6.5 million euros and his contract runs to June 2026.

The midfielder has made 29 appearances for Sporting but is yet to score or register an assist for them this season across all fronts.

The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Uruguay. As a member of Uruguay national football team, Ugarte won six caps.

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Newcastle.

The Magpies are looking to sign a midfielder and have identified the 21-year-old as potential transfer target.

The report details that Eddie Howe feels his midfield currently lacks some bite and that he could strengthen this summer. Howe is a firm fan of Sporting midfielder and Newcastle could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

Newcastle United will have funds to spend in the market and it will be interesting to see how they approach the summer transfer window.

The former Famalicão man will add more quality to Newcastle’s midfield.

However, with a reported release clause of €71million suggested in those talks over a new deal, Ugarte is said to not be keen on such a high asking price. The Uruguayan is keen on a new deal with talks set to continue.”

If Manuel Ugarte is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Newcastle.

The Premier League side need to add more depth to their midfield and the 21-year-old would be a good signing.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit at St. James’ Park.

How strong that interest is and whether Newcastle will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
