Newcastle United eyeing move for Everton centre-back Yerry Mina

Newcastle could be in for a busy transfer this winter.

According to multiple reports emanating from England, Newcastle United are eyeing move for Everton centre-back Yerry Mina.

The 27-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

Everton spent 30.25 million euros to sign the Colombia international

from Barcelona in the summer of 2018. The 27-year-old has a valid contract until June 2023.

The centre-back has played 84 times for Everton over the course of his career, scoring 6 goals and providing one assist.

The 27-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Colombia. Mina has also left his mark at the international stage after netting 7 goals in 38 senior appearances for the Colombia national team.

The centre-back has just 18 months remaining on his contract and Everton may consider a deal in this transfer window.

Adding a centre-back remains Newcastle’s top priority this winter and Eddie Howe will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.

The Colombia international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Howe wants to target in the winter transfer window.

The former Barcelona man heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third.

According to the report, “Newcastle want to take Mina from Everton. Mina has played for the Toffees since 2018, when he joined from Barcelona after representing Colombia at the World Cup. He made 15 appearances in his debut season, 33 in his second and 29 in his third. So far this term, he has featured seven times in the Premier League. His long-term future is unclear, though. Mina is only under contract at Goodison Park until 2023. According to the report, Everton would be willing to accept an offer of around €20m for him this January.”

Newcastle will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Mina to join the club. They have to fork out a huge transfer fee if they are genuinely interested in the Colombia international.

The Toffees are preparing to sell their centre-back should they receive right offer for him.

Good signing for Newcastle United?

Newcastle must improve their defensive options and the signing of Mina would be a step in the right direction.

Yerry Mina will be an ideal choice for Howe as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his defenders.

Stylistically, Mina would be a great fit in Newcastle.

If Howe sees him as the right man for his side, Newcastle should quickly make a move to fend off interest from other clubs.
