Newcastle monitoring Rennes winger Jeremy Doku
There has been intense speculation surrounding the future of Jeremy Doku in the last period.
The latest reports in England suggest that Newcastle United are monitoring Rennes winger Jeremy Doku.
The Belgium international joined Rennes from Anderlecht for a fee in the region of 26 million euros in October 2020. His contract expires in the summer of 2025.
He has banged in two goals and provided one assist in 12 matches this term on all fronts.
The 19-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Belgium. Doku has represented Belgium at Under-15, Under-16, Under-17 and Under-21 level, winning 35 caps and scoring 12 goals, before making his senior international debut in September 2020. As a member of Belgium national football team, Doku won 10 caps and he scored 2 goals.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
The Magpies are looking to sign a winger and have identified the 19-year-old as potential transfer target.
Eddie Howe has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe. He is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this summer.
Newcastle United are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
There is no doubt that Jeremy Doku will take Newcastle’s attack to a different level.
According to the report, “Newcastle United are scouting Rennes winger Jeremy Doku. Chronicle Live says Doku has been on United’s radar before but the £22million rated 19-year-old, who has suffered with both knee and hamstring injuries is being monitored by head of recruitment Steve Nickson and his scouting team. The Rennes star has been tracked by Liverpool in recent seasons. Doku can play either left-wing or right-wing and worked under former Newcastle star Craig Bellamy at Anderlecht, where he made a positive impression.”

Rennes are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the winger, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.
Newcastle United might have to pay over the odds to sign the winger.
Good signing for Newcastle United?
If Newcastle and Eddie Howe are seriously considering a winger, Doku could also prove to be a smart option.
Jeremy Doku has all the skillset required to be a success story at Newcastle. Therefore, it makes sense for Howe to step up his attempts to bring the Belgium winger to Premier League side.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Newcastle.
It will be interesting to see whether Newcastle United will make their move during the summer transfer window.
