Newcastle linked with a move for Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso
Newcastle United could solve their issues at left-back this summer as they eye up a move for Marcos Alonso.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Newcastle United are set to sign Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso.
The 29-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Spain international was signed by Chelsea in August 2016 from Fiorentina for a fee of 23 million euros. The 29-year-old has a contract until 2023 with the club.
The left-back has four goals and three assists in 11 Premier League games this season.
The 29-year-old is considered to be one of the best left-backs in Spain. As a member of Spain national football team, Alonso won three caps.
He is currently out of favor at Chelsea and could leave the club this summer.
Steve Bruce wants to sign a new left-back and Alonso is one of the names at the top of his wishlist.
The Spain international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Steve Bruce wants to target in the summer transfer window. His arrival would give Newcastle some much needed tactical flexibility.
According to the report, “Newcastle United are lining up a bid for Chelsea fullback Marcos Alonso. Toon owner Mike Ashley has agreed to sell the club to PCP Capital Partners, an organisation backed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. The Daily Star says Alonso could be their first summer signing. They say Newcastle’s new owners have told intermediaries to tell Chelsea of their interest in the left-back. Alonso, who spent half a season on loan in the north east at Sunderland, has three years remaining on his current Stamford Bridge contract. The Spaniard’s future under Frank Lampard is up in the air, with the Chelsea boss eyeing Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell. Chilwell’s arrival would see Alonso pushed down the pecking order in west London. The defender could then opt to head to St James’ Park if they can guarantee him regular game time.”
