Manchester United renew interest in Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi
Manchester United are reigniting their interest in Leicester City’s dynamic midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. According to the London Evening Standard, the Premier League giants have resumed their pursuit of the Nigerian international after previously exploring the possibility of signing him last year.
Ndidi, 28, has been a central figure at Leicester City since joining from Belgian side Genk in 2017. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most consistent defensive midfielders. In total, he has made 303 appearances for the Foxes, contributing 18 goals and 22 assists during his tenure at the King Power Stadium.

Despite his individual performances, Leicester’s fortunes have declined recently, culminating in their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season. That downturn has opened the door for Ndidi’s potential exit, especially due to a clause in his contract that allows him to leave the club this month for a fixed fee of £9 million.
Ndidi’s value on the pitch is well recognized not just in England, but internationally as well. He has represented Nigeria 65 times, playing a pivotal role in the Super Eagles’ midfield over the past decade. His blend of athleticism, tackling prowess, and positional intelligence makes him a desirable asset for any top-tier club seeking to bolster their midfield.

Manchester United had previously approached Ndidi’s representatives in July last year when his contract was nearing its end. However, the player ultimately opted to sign a new three-year deal with Leicester, reaffirming his commitment to the club. That deal did not deter United, who remain keen to bring him to Old Trafford, especially with the current transfer window providing a cost-effective opportunity to do so.

The Red Devils are reportedly looking to reinforce their midfield with a player capable of shielding the defense and providing stability in the center of the pitch — a role Ndidi fits perfectly. With Casemiro’s form fluctuating and questions around the long-term viability of other midfield options, the Nigerian’s arrival could bring much-needed depth and balance.
From a financial standpoint, the £9 million fee is seen as a bargain for a player of Ndidi’s caliber and experience. At 28, he still has several peak years ahead and could offer both immediate impact and long-term value. Moreover, his Premier League experience means he would need little time to adapt to the demands of playing for a club of United’s stature.
As the summer transfer window progresses, Manchester United’s interest in Ndidi could soon materialize into a formal offer. Should the deal go through, it would mark a new chapter for Ndidi, offering him a return to top-flight football and the chance to compete on the European stage once again.
For United, securing his signature could be a shrewd move in their ongoing rebuild under Ruben Amorim.
