Manchester United join Chelsea in race for Bayern Munich centre-back Niklas Sule
The upcoming summer will see Manchester United improving their defensive department.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Manchester United have joined Chelsea in race for Bayern Munich centre-back Niklas Sule.
Bayern spent 20 million euros to sign the Germany international from 1899 Hoffenheim in the summer of 2017. The 25-year-old has two years left on his current contract which expires in 2022.
This season, Sule has scored 2 goals in 25 appearances for Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Germany.
Niklas Sule has also left his mark at the international stage after netting one goal in 29 senior appearances for the Germany national team.
He is one of the more likely players to be offloaded by Bayern this summer and the list of suitors in the Germany international continues to grow.
Adding a centre-back remains United’s top priority this summer and Ole Gunnar Solskjær will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming months.
The Red Devils have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.
Niklas Sule has been long term target of Solskjær as the manager look to bolster his defensive options for the next season.
United are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The Bayern Munich centre-back heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.
According to the report,”Manchester United are joining Chelsea in their interest for Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule. The Daily Express says Sule has fallen out of favour under coach Hans-Dieter Flick and looks set to leave at the end of the season. The Germany international will see his contract expire in 2022 and there are no plans to renew at the moment. That means Bayern would happily sell if they can negotiate a good price with another club, as they did with Thiago Alcantara and Liverpool last year. Sule is a monster of a defender, standing 6ft4, but is astonishingly quick for his size – behind Alphonso Davies as the fastest player at the club. At a reported €30m (£26m), the 25-year-old is being considered by United and Chelsea.”

If Sule is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Manchester.
A centre-back of Sule’s ceiling will be a massive addition to Manchester United squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Solskjær’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his defensive department.
Manchester United fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.
It will be interesting to see what happens when United come calling for Sule this summer.
