Manchester United frontrunners to land Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa

The Red Devils are reportedly keeping a close eye on many goalkeepers across the Europe.

If a report from TEAMtalk is to be believed, Manchester United are frontrunners to land Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has played all his life at Porto. He has four years left on his current contract which expires in 2026.

Diogo Costa has conceded 12 goals and provided 7 clean sheets in 13 games for Porto in all competitions this season.

The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in Portugal. As a member of Portugal national football team, Costa won seven caps.

His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag wants to sign a new goalkeeper and Costa is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He is a firm fan of Porto goalkeeper and Manchester United could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

The Red Devils will have funds to spend in the market and it will be interesting to see how they approach the winter transfer window.

According to the report, “Manchester United are reportedly leading the race for Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, although he will cost upwards of £52million in the January transfer window. A report from Diario de Noticias claims United are ‘at the head’ of the queue for the highly-rated stopper who has been in superb form so far this season. Diario states that Poro manager Sergio Conceicao is facing a potential January headache as Costa ‘activated the radars’ of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. United, however, appear to be in a prime position to strike as they search for a long-term replacement for David de Gea. The report adds that Costa’s performances could lead to him becoming Porto’s most expensive transfer of all time.”

The English giants are showing interest in signing goalkeeper, but will have to dig deep to land him.

Porto would be wise to keep the Portugal international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.

Good signing for Manchester United?

If Manchester United and Erik ten Hag are seriously considering a goalkeeper, Costa could also prove to be a smart option.

All in all, Diogo Costa will be an ideal choice for Ten Hag as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his goalkeepers.
