Manchester United eye a 68 million euros transfer for Sevilla centre-back: A good move by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?
The defense remains the key area for United to address in the next couple of transfer windows.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Manchester United eye a 68 million euros transfer for Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde.
The centre-back joined Sevilla from Bordeaux for a fee in the region of 25 million euros in 2019. His contract expires in the summer of 2024.
The France international has banged in two goals in 27 matches for Sevilla this term on all fronts. He has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in France.
Kounde has represented France at Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning five caps and scoring one goal.
The 22-year-old performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including United.
Adding a centre-back remains United’s top priority this summer and Solskjær will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming months.
Solskjær has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.
The 22-year-old is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Solskjær wants to target in the summer transfer window.
Kounde has been a good servant for Sevilla, and is a centre-back who places himself in the right positions in defensive situations. The 22-year-old has a good defensive mind, someone who can spot attacking threats and nullify them.
According to the report, “Manchester United are reportedly hot on the heels of Sevilla’s £60m-rated centre-back Jules Kounde. Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made the 22-year-old his first-choice summer transfer target. European heavyweights Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Real Madrid are also chasing the player, while Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have tracked the Kounde in the past. Solskjaer currently has Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe to call on as partners for first choice Harry Maguire.”
It would take a huge offer from the Red Devils to prise the 22-year-old centre-back from Sevilla.
Good signing for Manchester United?
The 21-year-old is certainly a player that would strengthen the current United squad and would be a good buy in the summer transfer window.
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
It will be interesting to see what happens when United come calling for Kounde this summer.
