Manchester City set to sign Saul Niguez
When it comes to the transfer market, Manchester City are simply one of the best in the business.
It’s claimed by Spanish media that Manchester City are set to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
The Spain international joined Atletico Madrid from Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2008. His contract expires in the summer of 2026.
Niguez made 234 appearances across all competitions for Atletico Madrid, scoring 31 goals and supplying 18 assists in return.
He’s incredibly experienced for a 24-year-old and still has tons of room for growth.
Saul Niguez has represented Spain at Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 56 caps and scoring 10 goals, before making his senior international debut in September 2016. As a member of Spain national football team, Niguez won 15 caps and he scored 2 goals.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
Manchester City have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.
The Spain international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of midfielder player Pep Guardiola wants to target in the summer transfer window.
Niguez would provide a good variety to Manchester City’s midfield.
According to Football Espana (via Daily Mail), “Manchester City have made Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez ‘their number one transfer target’ for the next summer window, say reports. City believe Saul could be the long-term successor to Fernandinho in their central midfield, according to a report in the Daily Mail. However, indications suggest the 24-year-old’s lengthy contract – which is due to run for a further seven years until 2026 – includes a massive €150m release clause.”
