Manchester City poised to land Espanyol left-back Aaron Martin

Espanyol left-back Aaron Martin Caricol has emerged as a surprise target for Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

According to the football transfer rumours in Spanish Media (Football Espana), Manchester City are poised to land Espanyol left-back Aaron Martin Caricol.

The Spain international has joined Espanyol in 2005. The 20-year-old has a valid contract with Espanyol until June 2022.

Aaron Martin made 32 appearances across all competitions for Espanyol.

The 20-year-old is considered to be one of the best left-backs in Spain.

Aaron Martin has represented Spain at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-19 level, winning 22 caps and scoring two goals.

The Spain international is high in demand this summer, with him having enjoyed a sublime season for Espanyol last term.

Pep Guardiola is keen to secure at least one more signing this summer, and Aaron Martin Caricol could very well be a man under consideration. He has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.

The Spain international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Pep Guardiola wants to target in the summer transfer window.

However, there is some talk that Pep Guardiola could rotate his players more next season as Manchester City look to compete on four fronts, so there could still be enough game time available for Aaron Martin if he did make the move.

According to the report in Spanish Media, Manchester City have already bid 20 million euros for Aaron Martin, an offer rejected by the Catalans, who are holding out for his release clause worth in the region of 30 million euros.

How strong that interest is and whether Manchester City will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
