Liverpool target Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo
Liverpool are preparing for a future without Mo Salah, and have set their sights on Takefusa Kubo as a primary target for the right-wing position.
The club recognizes that Salah, who has been a key player for Liverpool, may leave when his contract expires next summer. Reports suggest that Saudi Arabian clubs are looking to secure a pre-contract agreement with Salah in January, paving the way for a free transfer next year.
In light of this, Liverpool are focusing on the 23-year-old Japanese winger Kubo, who currently plays for Real Sociedad. Kubo has shown considerable promise during his time with the Spanish club, making 87 appearances, scoring 17 goals, and providing 14 assists.
His performances have also been solid on the international stage, where he has represented Japan 35 times and scored 4 goals.
Kubo’s playing style has drawn comparisons to Salah, as he is also left-footed and favors cutting inside from the right wing, a characteristic move of Salah’s. However, while Kubo has demonstrated potential, he still has room for growth if he is to reach the level of impact that Salah has had at Liverpool.

Liverpool’s interest in Kubo is further underscored by the fact that he has a release clause of €60 million, the same as his Real Sociedad teammate Martin Zubimendi. Unlike Zubimendi, who is a product of Sociedad’s academy, Kubo was signed from Real Madrid, which Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes hopes might make negotiations smoother.
The Reds are keen to secure a long-term replacement for Salah, and Kubo’s age and skillset make him a promising candidate for the role. Despite the high release clause, Liverpool are expected to push forward with their pursuit, seeing Kubo as a key part of their future strategy.
As the January transfer window approaches, the situation surrounding Salah’s potential departure and Liverpool’s pursuit of Kubo will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike. The potential signing of Kubo would mark a significant step in Liverpool’s efforts to maintain their attacking prowess even after Salah’s exit. Whether Kubo can live up to the lofty expectations set by Salah remains to be seen, but his talent and potential make him an exciting prospect for Liverpool’s future.
