Liverpool: Jürgen Klopp pushing for a new forward
The Reds are known for going under the radar and signing some hidden gems in the transfer window.
According to multiple reports emanating from England, Liverpool are pushing to sign Santos forward Marcos Leonardo.
The 19-year-old has four years left on his current contract which expires in 2026.
He has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Brazil.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
Jürgen Klopp is keen to secure at least one more signing this summer, and Leonardo could very well be a man under consideration. Klopp has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.
The Brazil international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of forward Klopp wants to target in the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old will offer the Liverpool boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.
According to the report, “Liverpool are ready to bid big for Santos youngster Marcos Leonardo. Leonardo has been tracked by the Reds’ South American scouts for the past 12 months. Bolavip says Liverpool are ‘preparing’ a £50 million bid to sign the 19-year-old, which would trigger his release clause. He would fit their player criteria as one for the future if they opt to make a move for one of Brazil’s rising stars. Leonardo has recorded 16 goals and five assists across all competitions in Brazil this season and has already racked up over 100 appearances for Santos since breaking into the first team two years ago. He also has seven goals in three appearances for Brazil’s U20’s.”
Euro Football Rumours
Liverpool will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Santos to the negotiating table. They have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.
Santos would be wise to keep the Brazil international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.
Good signing for Liverpool?
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
If Liverpool and Klopp are seriously considering a forward for the future, Marcos Leonardo could also prove to be a smart option.
Of course, the 19-year-old is not going to become a regular for Liverpool straightaway, but working under Jürgen Klopp would make him a better player.
It will be interesting to see if Liverpool are willing to pay the asking price for Leonardo.
