Liverpool join the hunt for Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga
The upcoming summer will see Liverpool improving their midfield department.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Liverpool have joined the hunt for Celta Vigo young midfielder Gabri Veiga.
The 20-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
Veiga has come through the youth ranks of Celta Vigo and has successfully managed to establish himself as a key member of their senior team. He has three years left on his current contract which expires in 2026.
The midfielder has found the back of the net on 9 occasions and picked up 3 assists in 29 matches this season across various competitions.
The 20-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Spain. Veiga has represented Spain at Under-18 and Under-21 level, winning 5 caps and scoring 2 goals.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
The Reds are looking to sign a midfielder and have identified the 20-year-old as potential transfer target.
Jürgen Klopp has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.
The Spain international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of midfielder Jürgen Klopp wants to target in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old has the talent to play many roles in midfield.
According to the report, “Liverpool are jumping into the battle for Celta Vigo whiz Gabri Veiga. That’s according to local journalist Anton Meana, who said on Cadena Ser’s El Larguero programme that Liverpool “love” Veiga. Meana states the Reds can be considered as one of his main suitors. To sign him, they could activate his €40million (£35m) release clause. There may even be a chance for Veiga to move for less than that amount. Real Madrid and Arsenal are also interested in the Celta Vigo player.”
Euro Football Rumours
The Reds will have to present a really enticing offer to bring Celta to the negotiating table. They have the resources to tempt them but it will be interesting to see if they are willing to overpay for the player.
Celta Vigo are preparing to sell their midfielder should they receive a massive offer for him.
Good signing for Liverpool?
Undoubtedly, he would be a fantastic recruit for Liverpool.
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
Of course, the 20-year-old is not going to become a regular for Liverpool straightaway, but working under Jürgen Klopp would make him a better player.
It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds in the next few months.
