Liverpool join Arsenal in race for Midtjylland winger Gustav Isaksen
The Reds are reportedly keeping a close eye on many wingers across the Europe.
According to multiple reports emanating from England, Liverpool have joined Arsenal in race for Midtjylland winger Gustav Isaksen.
The 21-year-old winger has played all his life at Midtjylland. He has made his way through the youth system of the club. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2024.
Gustav Isaksen has scored seven goals and assisted three more across all competitions this season.
The 21-year-old has long been touted as one of Denmark’s most promising young talents. Isaksen has represented Denmark at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 47 caps and scoring 16 goals.
Gustav Isaksen is set to be a man in demand in the winter transfer window, with a host of clubs queuing up to pursue his signature.
The Liverpool manager is in the market for a new winger. The Reds have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.
Jürgen Klopp is a firm fan of Midtjylland winger and Liverpool could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.
The 21-year-old will offer the Liverpool boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.
According to the report, “Liverpool are scouting FC Midtjylland winger Gustav Isaksen. Ekstra Bladet says the Reds have made discreet enquiries after the young Dane. The 21 year-old has also attracted an approach from Arsenal in recent weeks. A move away in January is gathering moment as interest from abroad intensifies.”
Euro Football Rumours
If Liverpool can tie up a cheap deal for the player, it may not be a bad signing by any means.
FC Midtjylland will be ready to part ways with the winger should the right offer arrives.
Good signing for Liverpool?
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
Of course, the 21-year-old is not going to become a regular for Liverpool straightaway, but working under Klopp would make him a better player.
It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can beat their rivals to the winger’s signature.
