Inter Milan appear to have taken a step forward in their pursuit of Matteo Politano.
According to the football transfer rumours in Italian media, Inter Milan are set to sign Sassuolo winger Matteo Politano.
The Italy international joined Sassuolo from Roma for a fee in the region of 3.5 million euros in July 2016. His contract expires in the summer of 2022.
Politano made 110 appearances across all competitions for Sassuolo, scoring 24 goals and supplying 15 assists in return.
He is 24-year-old and has his peak years ahead.
Matteo Politano has represented Italy at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 14 caps and scoring three goals, before making his senior international debut in May 2018. As a member of Italy national football team, Politano won one cap.
Luciano Spalletti is looking to shore up his attacking options and Sassuolo’s Matteo Politano happens to be a target.
Inter Milan have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Italy, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.
According to Football Italia (via Sky Sport Italia), “Inter have reached a basic agreement with Sassuolo for Matteo Politano for circa €25m, according to Sky Sport Italia. There was a meeting today between the two clubs and they seem to have edged significantly closer to a deal. The winger will move to San Siro on loan with option to buy for a total of €25m. Also included in the transfer are Inter youth team players – midfielder Gabriele Zappa and centre-forward Davide Merola. More talks will take place tomorrow to whittle down the details and discuss personal terms with the other players, especially as some might require buy-back clauses.”
