Genoa enter talks with Wolverhampton for Fabio Silva

Serie A club Genoa have reportedly initiated discussions with Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding a potential move for striker Fabio Silva. The 22-year-old forward has been on Genoa’s radar since December, and the Italian side is now making a renewed effort to bring him to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Fabio Silva spent the second half of the last season on loan at Rangers, where he made a notable impact. During his time with the Scottish club, Silva played 25 games, finding the back of the net 6 times. Despite these contributions, Silva has faced challenges in consistently breaking into the first team at Wolves, where he has struggled to replicate the form that saw him highly regarded during his early career.

Silva comes from a footballing family, with his father, Jorge Silva, being a former defensive midfielder who won the Portuguese league title with Boavista in 2001 and earned two caps for the Portugal national team. His older brother, also named Jorge, played as a defensive midfielder for Lazio, further cementing the family’s strong footballing heritage.

Genoa’s interest in Silva first emerged last December when they made initial inquiries about the Portuguese striker. However, the move did not materialize at that time. Now, according to Alfredo Pedulla, a well-known Italian journalist, Genoa has resumed their pursuit of Silva, signaling their determination to secure his services before the transfer window closes.

Fabio Silva began his professional career at Porto, where his performances caught the eye of many top clubs. In 2020, Wolves moved quickly to secure the young talent, paying a substantial €40 million transfer fee to bring him to the Premier League. Despite his early promise, Silva has found it challenging to establish himself as a regular starter at Molineux, prompting Wolves to consider letting him go.

With two years remaining on his contract, Wolves appear open to the idea of offloading Silva, particularly if a suitable offer comes in. Genoa values Silva’s versatility, as he is capable of playing both as a central striker and on the wing, making him an attractive option for their attacking lineup.

The potential arrival of Silva at Genoa could set off a series of transfers within Serie A. It is speculated that his signing might pave the way for Nico Gonzalez’s move to Juventus and could also lead to Albert Gudmundsson heading to Fiorentina, as clubs in Italy continue to shuffle their squads ahead of the new season.
