DC United open talks for Gylfi Sigurdsson
It’s been a transfer window full of surprises, and DC United could be set to carry on this trend.
According to the football transfer rumours in British and American media, DC United have opened talks for Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The Iceland international joined Everton from Swansea City for a fee in the region of 49.4 million euros in August 2017. His contract expires in the summer of 2022.
The midfielder has featured in 38 matches for Everton last term, netting 3 goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions.
The 30-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Iceland.
His record for Iceland is impressive. Sigurdsson has scored 22 goals in 74 matches for Iceland at senior level.
The Everton manager does not see him in his plans and would be open to letting him leave.
DC United are looking to sign a midfielder and have identified the 30-year-old as potential transfer target.
The Iceland international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of midfielder player Ben Olsen wants to target.
There is no doubt that Gylfi Sigurdsson will take DC United’s midfield to a different level.
According to the report, “D.C. United have held talks with Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson about a potential move to MLS, according to a report from Pablo Maurer of The Athletic. Per Maurer, the club has had discussions with Sigurdsson’s representatives about a move stateside, although a timeframe remains unclear as the player is under contract with Everton through 2022. The 30-year-old is currently one of the club’s highest-paid players.”

A midfielder of Gylfi Sigurdsson’s ceiling will be a massive addition to DC United squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Ben Olsen’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his midfield department.
The ball is in DC United’s court and they need to take a decision on signing Gylfi Sigurdsson.
