DC United frontrunners to land Mesut Ozil
Over the past couple of weeks, there has been intense speculation over the future of Mesut Ozil at Arsenal.
The reports in USA and Turkey suggested that DC United are frontrunners to land Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil.
The Germany international was signed by Arsenal in September 2013 from Real Madrid for a fee of 47 million euros. The 32-year-old has a contract until 2021 with the club.
In 254 appearances for Arsenal, Ozil has managed to score 44 goals, and create 77 goals for his teammates.
The 32-year-old is considered to be one of the best attacking midfielders in Germany.
His record for Germany is also impressive. Ozil has scored 23 goals in 92 matches for Germany at senior level.
The attacking midfielder has just 6 months remaining on his contract and Arsenal may consider a deal in this transfer window to avoid losing him for nothing next winter. Ozil is out of the picture at Arsenal, which has opened the door for a potential exit.
By the club’s own admission, Ozil is DC United’s number one transfer target.
United are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The Arsenal midfielder is a traditional number ten who will add creativity and technique in the final third. He will offer the DC United boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.
According to the report, “DC United are emerging as a surprise destination for Arsenal star Mesut Ozil. The German is frozen out of the team by Mikel Arteta at the London club. Two outlets in Turkey have run reports linking the 32-year-old to DC United. They claim the offer from the MLS club is the most serious one he has received.”

Undoubtedly he would be a fantastic recruit for DC United.
An attacking midfielder of Ozil’s ceiling will be a massive addition to MLS squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of the starting XI but also he will add some stability and variety to attacking department.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit in DC United.
How strong that interest is and whether DC United will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
