Chelsea sign Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater

It’s been a transfer window full of surprises.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Danny Drinkwater over the course of the transfer window.

According to the Chelsea FC official website, the Blues have signed Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater.

The England international has joined Leicester City from Manchester United for a fee in the region of 1 million euros in January 2012.

Since his arrival from Manchester United, Danny Drinkwater has scored 15 goals and provided 23 assists in 218 games for Leicester City.

The 27-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in England.

The England international has been in impressive form for Leicester City last season.

Danny Drinkwater has represented England at Under-18 and Under-19 level, winning 16 caps and scoring two goals, before making his senior international debut in March 2016. As a member of England national football team, Danny Drinkwater has won three caps.

Antonio Conte wanted to sign a new midfielder this summer and Danny Drinkwater was one of the names at the top of his wishlist.

The England international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of midfield player Antonio Conte has wanted to target in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea were desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.

The England international would be a versatile addition for the Chelsea, having featured at central midfield and in a defensive midfield role.

With questions being raised concerning Ross Barkley’s decision not to sign with the Blues, the Chelsea boss looked to Danny Drinkwater as an ideal replacement.

According to the report in Chelsea FC official website, Chelsea have signed midfielder Danny Drinkwater on a five-year contract from Leicester City for 41 million euros. The 27-year-old midfielder becomes Chelsea’s sixth senior signing of the summer following the arrivals of Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Alvaro Morata and Davide Zappacosta.

Having signed Danny Drinkwater for 1 million euros in the winter of 2012, to make a 40 million euros profit on the 27-year-old who, without question, will be fantastic for Leicester City is a good deal all round.
