Chelsea eyeing move for Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest
The Blues could be in for a busy transfer this summer.
The reports in England suggested that Chelsea are eyeing move for Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest.
The United States international joined Barcelona from Ajax for a fee in the region of 21 million euros in October 2020. His contract expires in the summer of 2025.
He has featured in 31 matches last term, providing 3 assists in all competitions.
The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in United States. As a member of United States national football team, Dest won 17 caps and he scored 2 goals.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Chelsea.
The Blues are looking to sign a right-back and have identified the 21-year-old as potential transfer target.
Thomas Tuchel is a long term admirer of Dest and believes he can get the most out of the United States international.
The former Ajax man would be a versatile addition for the Chelsea, having featured at right-back and fullback role. His arrival would give Chelsea some much needed tactical flexibility.
According to the report, “Chelsea are interested in Barcelona fullback Sergino Dest. The 21-year old USA international is predominantly a right back but can also play on the left and that versatility is well liked by coach Thomas Tuchel. Dest was considered in January and has been monitored since his time at Ajax. Barca have already put offers to Chelsea pair Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta but with the financial straight jacket they find themselves in are limited to what transfer fees, if any, they can propose. That could open the door for a player-plus-cash offer from Chelsea for Dest if he is willing to make the move to London.”

The Blues will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Dest to join the club.
If Chelsea can agree on a fee with Barcelona, the deal should be easy to complete.
Good signing for Chelsea?
Given Dest’s talent and potential, he would be a very good signing for Chelsea in the long run. He will be an ideal choice for Tuchel as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his defenders.
Chelsea fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.
How strong that interest is and whether Chelsea will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
