British source claim that Celtic are edge closer to signing RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper.
The Germany international joined RB Leipzig from Fiorentina for a fee in the region of 580,000 euros in August 2014. His contract expires in the summer of 2019.
Compper has played 79 times for RB Leipzig since signing from Fiorentina, scoring five goals and creating three assists.
Marvin Compper has represented Germany at Under-20 level, winning 13 caps. As a member of Germany national football team, Compper won one cap.
Adding a defender remains Celtic’s top priority this winter and Brendan Rodgers will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.
The report claims that Celtic manager has extensively scouted Marvin Compper and is considering a move for the defender.
Marvin Compper is a traditional defender. He is solid while defending and holds his position perfectly.

According to the report, Brendan Rodgers has made no secret of the fact he wants an experienced stopper for the second half of the season. Injuries to Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko have left him short, forcing him to play several players out of position. Leipzig have Compper earmarked for a coaching role at the club when his playing days are over, but they are open to the idea of him leaving in the winter transfer window.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Celtic come calling for Marvin Compper in January.
