Burnley set to sign Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil
As the winter transfer window comes closer and closer Burnley are being linked with more and more potential transfers.
The latest reports in England suggest that Burnley are set to sign Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil.
The 20-year-old’s contract at Sunderland is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
The midfielder has featured in 28 matches this term, netting 3 goals and providing 8 assists in all competitions.
The 20-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in England.
His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Burnley.
The Clarets have earmarked Sunderland midfielder as their target, with Sean Dyche being a ‘huge admirer’ of the player. Dyche is a firm fan of the 20-year-old and Burnley could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.
The Sunderland man would provide a good variety to Burnley’s midfield.
According to the report, “Burnley are eyeing Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil. The Sun says Clarets’ chief scout Martin Hodge watched the 20-year-old in action at Arsenal in the League Cup and the home-grown youngster impressed. The Turf Moor outfit’s American owners are willing to invest in some rising stars with future value and Neil is in their sights as an ideal target. League One Black Cats may sell if the price is right and Burnley have done rigorous background tests in the last few days ahead of an opening offer. Burnley may try their luck at around £3million for the England Under-20 cap — and possibly even do a deal to buy him and return him to Wearside on loan for the promotion campaign.”
Euro Football Rumours
Sunderland are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the midfielder, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.
If the Burnley can tie up a cheap deal for the player, it may not be a bad signing by any means.
Good signing for Burnley?
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
This could be a very interesting move, Neil has lots of potential and Burnley could be the perfect place for him to develop as a player.
How strong that interest is and whether Burnley will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
