Burnley linked with Sheffield United centre-back Chris Basham
Burnley are reportedly keeping a close eye on many centre-backs.
The reports in England suggested that Burnley are linked with Sheffield United centre-back Chris Basham.
The England international joined Sheffield United from Blackpool on a free transfer in 2014. His contract is set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
The centre-back has featured in 20 matches for Sheffield United this term in all competitions.
Given that his contract is expiring soon and he has not yet signed an extension, the rumors have only heated up in recent weeks.
Sean Dyche wants to sign a new centre-back and Chris Basham is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. Basham is a long-term target of Burnley and could be a decent addition for Dyche’s side.
The former Blackpool man is often quick to scan the danger and is not shy of getting stuck in with some well-timed tackles to help secure possession back for his side. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.
According to the report, “Burnley are eyeing Sheffield United defender Chris Basham. The Daily Mail says the 33-year old is a huge favourite at Bramall Lane after spending seven years there but, despite talk of a new contract being close to agreement, he has still to receive a formal offer and is having to weigh up other options. Wolves and his boyhood club Newcastle United showed interest in the summer but were put off by Sheffield United’s valuation. Basham has been happy to stay since and has spoken openly about his desire to help the club return to the top flight under Paul Heckingbottom. However, at his age and with five months left on his deal, his next contract is an important one.”

Burnley will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Basham to join the club.
Sheffield United are preparing to sell their centre-back should they receive right offer for him.
Good signing for Burnley?
If Basham is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Burnley.
A centre-back of Chris Basham’s ceiling will be a massive addition to Burnley squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Dyche’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his defensive department.
The 33-year-old could be a good fit for Dyche’s Burnley.
How strong that interest is and whether Burnley will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
