Bayer Leverkusen looking to sign Ajax defender Nick Viergever
According to the football transfer rumours in Dutch Media (Football Oranje), Bayer Leverkusen are looking to sign Ajax defender Nick Viergever.
The Netherlands international was signed by Ajax in July 2014 from AZ Alkmaar for a fee of 2 million euros. The 27-year-old has a valid contract with Ajax until June 2018.
Viergever has played 100 times for Ajax since signing from AZ Alkmaar, scoring 7 goals and creating 6 assists in that time.
The 27-year-old is considered to be one of the best defenders in Netherlands.
Nick Viergever has represented Netherlands at Under-21 level, winning five caps, before making his senior international debut in August 2012. As a member of Netherlands national football team, Nick Viergever has won three caps.
There has been no movement on Nick Viergever agreeing a contract extension at Ajax, and he will be on the radar of many European clubs during the summer.
Adding a defender remains Bayer Leverkusen’s top priority this summer and Heiko Herrlich will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.
The Netherlands international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Herrlich wants to target in the summer transfer window.

The defender can also play as a left-back, offering Heiko Herrlich a different option should he change his formation at Bayer Leverkusen.
According to the Dutch Media, Bayer Leverkusen are preparing an offer in the region of 5 million euros for the Netherlands international.
How strong that interest is and whether Bayer Leverkusen will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
