Barcelona linked with fresh move for Lisandro Martinez
The Ajax centre-back has been identified as one of the club’s potential targets as Ronald Koeman looks to add more reinforcements in the defensive unit.
The latest reports in Spain and England suggest that Barcelona are linked with fresh move for Lisandro Martinez.
The 23-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Argentina international joined Ajax from Defensa y Justicia for a fee in the region of 7 million euros in July 2019. His contract expires in the summer of 2023.
The centre-back has featured in 42 matches this term, netting 3 goals and providing one assist in all competitions.
The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the best centre-backs in Argentina. As a member of Argentina national football team, Martinez won one cap.
His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.
Koeman wants to sign a new centre-back and Martinez is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.
Barcelona are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
Martinez is a very comfortable defender and has qualities which would improve the Barcelona’s backline. He has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.
According to the report, “Barcelona are eyeing Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. Barca president Joan Laporta wishes to bring in a new centre-half this and Martinez is under consideration. Mundo Deportivo says Barca see Martinez a cut-price option for the summer market. Ajax would be willing to sell for €25m and Barca would be willing to discuss a cash-plus-player swap arrangement. The Argentine would arrive as a potential successor for veteran Gerard Pique.”

If Barca can agree on a fee with Ajax, the deal should be easy to complete.
Good signing for Barcelona?
If Martinez is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Barcelona.
Lisandro Martinez has all the skillset required to be a success story at Barcelona. Therefore, it makes sense for Ronald Koeman to step up his attempts to bring the Argentina centre-back to La Liga side.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Barcelona.
Barcelona fans would certainly love to see him arrive at the club.
How strong that interest is and whether Barcelona will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
