Atletico Madrid are showing strong interest in Yuri Berchiche.
The reports in Spain suggested that Atletico Madrid are leading the race for Paris Saint-Germain defender Yuri Berchiche.
The 28-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Spain international was signed by Paris Saint-Germain in July 2017 from Real Sociedad for a fee of 16 million euros. The 28-year-old has a contract until 2021 with the club.
Berchiche made 29 appearances across all competitions for PSG, scoring two goals and supplying five assists in return.
Adding a defender remains Atletico Madrid’s priority this summer and Diego Simeone will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming weeks.
The report claims that Atletico Madrid manager has extensively scouted Berchiche and is considering a move for the defender.
Simeone is a long term admirer of Yuri Berchiche and believes he can get the most out of the Spain international.
According to Football Espana (via El Mundo Deportivo and Diario Vasco), “Atletico Madrid are in ‘pole position’ to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Yuri Berchiche, according to reports in the Spanish press. El Mundo Deportivo cites a report in Diario Vasco which states Los Rojiblancos are in a strong position to bring the former Real Sociedad left-back in this summer.”
