Atletico Madrid keen on Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia
The midfield department of the Atletico squad needs quality additions this winter.
According to the football transfer rumours in Spainish media, Atletico Madrid are keen on Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.
The Central African Republic international was signed by Valencia in July 2018 from Inter Milan for a fee of 22 million euros. The 27-year-old has a contract until 2022 with the club.
The midfielder has featured in five matches for Valencia this term.
The 27-year-old is considered to be the best midfielder in Central African Republic. As a member of Central African Republic national football team, Kondogbia won 3 caps and he scored one goal.
Atletico Madrid are looking to sign a midfielder and have identified the 27-year-old as potential transfer target.
The report claims that Atletico manager has extensively scouted Kondogbia and is considering a move for the midfielder.
Atletico are desperate to make an impact in the winter transfer window.
The Central African Republic international will offer the Atletico Madrid boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.
According to the report, “Atletico Madrid could make a January transfer move Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia according to Mundo Deportivo. Diego Simeone brought in Arsenal star Lucas Torreira on a season long loan last month following Thomas Partey’s move to the Emirates Stadium. However, the Argentinian coach is rumoured to still be on the hunt for midfield reinforcements with Hector Herrera linked with a move away from the club in the coming months. The Catalan newspaper claims Simeone has highlighted the former Inter Milan man as a possible target after a falling out with Los Che boss Javi Gracia. Kondogbia has made clear his intentions to leave the Estadio Mestalla after growing frustrated at Valencia with an ankle injury keeping him out of the startinf line up so far this season. The 27-year old is under contract with Valencia until 2022 and they will demand around £12m to secure a transfer away from the club.”

Atletico could benefit by signing Kondogbia as the midfielder is one of the areas of concern for Diego Simeone.
Kondogbia has all the skillset required to be a success story at Atletico Madrid. Therefore, it makes sense for Diego Simeone to step up his attempts to bring the Central African Republic midfielder to La Liga side.
How strong that interest is and whether Atletico will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
