AS Roma linked with surprise move for Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks
It is an open secret that Roma need to sign a midfielder.
British source claim that Roma are linked with surprise move for Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks.
The 26-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
Winks has one year left on his current contract which expires in 2024.
The midfielder has featured in 30 matches last term, netting one goal and providing two assists in all competitions.
He has represented England at Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 19 caps and scoring one goal, before making his senior international debut in October 2017. As a member of England national football team, Winks won 10 caps and he scored one goal.
Harry Winks is out of the picture at Tottenham, which has opened the door for a potential exit. He is one of the more likely players to be offloaded by Tottenham this summer and the list of suitors in the England international continues to grow.
Jose Mourinho wants to sign a new backup midfielder and Winks is one of the names at the top of his wishlist.
Mourinho is a long term admirer of Winks and believes he can get the most out of the England international. The 26-year-old will offer the Roma boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.
According to the report, “Roma are interested in Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks. Winks is under consideration after PSG loanee Gini Wijnaldum suffered a leg fracture in training. La Repubblica says Roma want to sign cover and have Winks under consideration. The midfielder is not in Tottenham manager Antonio Conte’s plans this season and been encouraged to find a new club. Winks knows Roma coach Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese’s time in charge of Spurs.”
Euro Football Rumours
If Roma are genuinely interested, a deal would not be impossible to complete.
The Spurs will not be able to demand a significant fee for Winks since his current deal is set to expire in 2024.
Good signing for Roma?
If Harry Winks is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Roma.
The Serie A side need to add more depth to their midfield and the 26-year-old would be a good signing.
A move away from Tottenham will not be only the best move for Winks, but also for the club.
How strong that interest is and whether Roma will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
