Arsenal considering a move for Darwin Nunez
The attacking department of the Arsenal squad needs quality additions.
According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Arsenal are considering a move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.
The 22-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.
The Uruguay international joined Benfica from Almería for a fee in the region of 24 million euros in September 2020. His contract expires in the summer of 2025.
The striker banged in 11 goals and provided 2 assists in 17 matches this season across all fronts showcasing just how influential he has been in the final third.
The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best strikers in Uruguay. Nunez has also left his mark at the international stage after netting 2 goals in 6 senior appearances for the Uruguay national team.
Nunez has been in impressive form for Benfica this season and it looks like he caught the eye of many European clubs including Arsenal.
The Gunners are looking to sign a striker and have identified the 22-year-old as potential transfer target.
Mikel Arteta has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe.
The former Almería man provides a unique blend between a classic center-forward and the modern striker. His finishing abilities when in and around the box will come as a massive asset to Mikel Arteta’s side.
According to the report, “Arsenal are considering making an offer for Benfica and Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez. Manager Mikel Arteta is seeking additional fire power, especially after the struggles experienced by forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season. According to Traspasos in Uruguay, Nunez is emerging as the latest goalscorer the club will target in January or the summer. Nunez is valued at roughly £34 million. A January transfer seems unlikely, unless Arsenal can raise funds through selling forward Alexandre Lacazette and other fringe players. Manchester City and Barcelona have also been linked with Nunez in recent months.”

However, Nunez won’t come cheap as his current contract runs out in the summer of 2025.
Benfica are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the striker, but offers of at least 40 million euros may force the club to consider a deal.
Should Arsenal pursue Darwin Nunez?
If Arsenal and Arteta are seriously considering a striker, Nunez could also prove to be a smart option.
Darwin Nunez has all the skillset required to be a success story at Arsenal. Therefore, it makes sense for Arteta to step up his attempts to bring the Uruguay striker to Premier League side.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Arsenal.
How strong that interest is and whether Arsenal will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
