AC Milan make loan move for Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa

AC Milan have reportedly made a formal approach to sign Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa on loan for the 2025/26 season. According to DAZN, the Italian giants are offering to bring the Italy international back to Serie A in a bid to revive his career after a challenging season in England.

Chiesa, 27, joined Liverpool from Juventus on deadline day at the end of August last year, but his debut season at Anfield has fallen short of expectations. Struggling with both form and fitness, the dynamic winger managed just 14 appearances across all competitions for the Reds, contributing two goals and two assists. While these numbers hint at his potential, they fall far below the impact Liverpool had hoped for when signing the highly rated attacker.

The Italian international has made 51 appearances for his country, scoring seven goals and becoming a regular feature in the national team setup. However, his lack of consistent minutes at club level has raised concerns about his ability to maintain a spot in the Azzurri squad ahead of upcoming international competitions.

Milan’s proposal offers Chiesa a chance to reset and rediscover his best form in a more familiar environment. Crucially, the Rossoneri are not involved in European competition next season, allowing them to focus solely on domestic football. This could benefit Chiesa, providing a less demanding schedule as he aims to regain fitness and confidence. Milan are also reportedly willing to guarantee him a prominent role in the starting lineup—something that may not be possible at Liverpool going forward.

The competition for attacking places at Liverpool is set to intensify, especially with the potential arrival of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The German starlet is expected to command a key role in the Liverpool squad if he makes the move, further limiting Chiesa’s chances of consistent first-team action. Given this scenario, a move away from Anfield appears increasingly likely.

For Milan, Chiesa represents a low-risk opportunity to bring in a player with proven quality who could thrive with regular playing time. For Chiesa, the move could be a much-needed lifeline to reignite his career trajectory. And for Liverpool, loaning out the winger might preserve his market value while giving him the chance to regain form and fitness without the immediate pressure of Premier League expectations.

While no agreement has been finalized, talks between the clubs are expected to continue in the coming weeks. Both parties are believed to be open to the idea, and personal terms with the player are not expected to be a significant hurdle. With the summer transfer window approaching, this could be one of the key moves involving top European clubs as they look to reshape their squads ahead of the new campaign.

In what appears to be a mutually beneficial arrangement, Federico Chiesa’s proposed return to Serie A with AC Milan might just be the perfect opportunity for a talented player to get back on track.
