The Milan manager is in the market for a new centre-back.
The Serbia international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Marco Giampaolo wants to target in the summer transfer window.
According to Football Italia (via Sportitalia), “Milan have approached Schalke 04 for centre-back Matija Nastasic, as Dejan Lovren of Liverpool is too expensive. According to transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, the Rossoneri are using agent Fali Ramadani to help negotiate a deal with the German club. Schalke bought Nastasic from Manchester City in 2015 for €9.5m following a six-month loan deal, but he already has Serie A experience from the 2011-12 campaign at Fiorentina. The Serbia international is 26 years old and can play at left-back as well as central defence. He had also been linked with Lazio and Juventus in recent seasons, but is considered a better option than Lovren, who turns 30 on Friday and is priced at €25m.”

Schalke 04 are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the centre-back, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Milan.
Whether or not this is the end for Matija Nastasic in Schalke remains to be seen. If the move goes through as reported, then it would be a fantastic deal for all parties involved.
