Roma submit bid for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Ante Coric

Roma appear to have taken a step forward in their pursuit of Ante Coric.

The reports in Italy suggested that Roma have submitted bid for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Ante Coric.

The 20-year-old has been subject to interest from various European clubs.

The Croatia international was signed by Dinamo Zagreb in July 2013 from Salzburg for a fee of 930,000 euros. The 20-year-old has a contract until 2022 with the club.

Since his arrival from Salzburg, Coric has scored 22 goals and provided 22 assists in 133 games for Dinamo Zagreb, including three goals and two assists in 17 games in all competitions this season.

The 20-year-old has long been touted as one of Croatia’s most promising young talents.

Ante Coric has represented Croatia at Under-15, Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 43 caps and scoring five goals, before making his senior international debut in May 2016. As a member of Croatia national football team, Coric won three caps.

Roma are in the market for a new midfielder when the transfer window reopens.

The report claims that Roma have extensively scouted Coric and is considering a move for the midfielder.

According to Football Italia (via Corriere dello Sport), “Roma have already made a €12m offer for Dinamo Zagreb and Croatia talent Ante Coric, claims the Corriere dello Sport. The creative midfielder turns 21 next month and already has three senior caps for his country. It’s reported Giallorossi director of sport Monchi moved on the market to get into pole position during what has not been his best season. The €12m on the table may already be enough to tempt his club into a sale.”

Dinamo Zagreb are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the midfielder, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.

While many believe Ante Coric to be a promising young talent, others find him extremely overrated.

Roma should focus on other positions rather than signing one more midfielder next summer.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Roma come calling for Ante Coric in the summer.
