Real Madrid keen on Liverpool defender Joe Gomez

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has emerged as a surprise target for Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the football transfer rumours in Spanish Media, Real Madrid are keen on Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.

Joe Gomez has joined Liverpool from Charlton for a fee in the region of 4.9 million euros in 2015. The 19 year-old has a valid contract with Liverpool until June 2022.

Since his arrival from Charlton, Joe Gomez has scored one goal and provided one assist in 14 games for Liverpool, including one goal in seven games in all competitions this season.

The 19-year-old is considered to be one of the most talented defenders in England.

Joe Gomez has represented England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 20 caps.

The England international is a player who has impressed many European Clubs in the last two seasons, and it is understood that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane would prefer playing him as a centre-back.

How strong that interest is and whether Real Madrid will make a summer move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
