Real Betis preparing move for Genk midfielder Sander Berge

Real Betis are showing strong interest in Sander Berge.

According to the football transfer rumours in Spanish media, Real Betis are preparing move for Genk midfielder Sander Berge.

Berge has played 13 times for Genk since signing from Vålerenga.

The 20-year-old has long been touted as one of Norway’s most promising young talents.

Sander Berge has represented Norway at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 21 caps and scoring four goals, before making his senior international debut in March 2017. As a member of Norway national football team, Berge won seven caps.

The Norway international has impressed in Jupiler Pro League this season and is starting to attract the interest of bigger clubs.

The Real Betis manager is in the market for a new midfielder when the transfer window reopens.

Quique Setién has always been a manager who keeps his eyes on the most talented young players across the globe. He has kept an eye on Berge for the last few months and he is impressed with the midfielder’s performances.

According to Football Espana, “The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Sevilla last summer but a report in Estadio Deportivo now states he has ‘moved up to the top of the agenda at Betis’. The report states Betis are closing in on securing free transfers for Espanyol goalkeeper and Eibar midfielder Takashi Inui, leaving ‘a sizable’ transfer budget for contracted players. Genk reportedly want in excess of €10m having signed the Norwegian from Valerenga from €2m in January 2017 and could ask for as much as €15m.”

Berge is a Genk player and will remain one until at least the end of this season.

Whether or not he is truly needed at Real Betis is still debatable.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Real Betis come calling for Sander Berge in the summer.
