Napoli are monitoring Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, according to the football transfer rumours in Italian media.
The 25-year-old is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in France.
Alphonse Areola has represented France at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 61 caps.
Napoli are in the market for a new goalkeeper when the transfer window reopens.
The Italian ginats have built a reputation for recruiting young talent from within Europe, predominantly targeting those with sell-on value and immense potential.
Napoli will be in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
According to Football Italia (via L’Équipe), “While the Frenchman’s first choice would be to stay, he wants to be a starter and wouldn’t accept being backup to Buffon. His contract expires at the end of next season, but Areola has warned he’ll only sign an extension if “all the conditions are met”. That’s believed to refer to his status in the team more than his wages, so Buffon’s arrival could well force him out. Last season Newcastle United showed interest 25-year-old, and L’Équipe believes manager Rafa Benitez is still an admirer. In addition, the newspaper reports, Napoli are aware of his situation and are considering him as a replacement for Pepe Reina.”

Paris Saint-Germain value the goalkeeper at 20 million euros.
The French champions are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the goalkeeper, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.
The 25-year-old will definitely be a good addition to the Napoli side, which will be competing in the Champions League next season.
