Manchester United will look to sign Chelsea defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic

Chelsea defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic has emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the football transfer rumours in Serbian Media, Manchester United will look to sign Chelsea defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The Serbia international was signed by Chelsea in January 2014 from Benfica for a fee of 25 million euros. The 28-year-old has a valid contract with Chelsea until June 2019.

Since his arrival from Benfica, Nemanja Matic has scored seven goals and provided 20 assists in 153 games for Chelsea, including two goals and provided nine assists in 39 games in all competitions this season.

The 28-year-old is considered to be the best defensive midfielder in Serbia.

Nemanja Matic has represented Serbia at Under-21 level, winning 11 caps and scoring two goals, before making his senior international debut in December 2008. As a member of Serbia national football team, Nemanja Matic has won 31 caps and has scored one goal.

There has been no movement on Nemanja Matic agreeing a contract extension at Chelsea, and he will be on the radar of many English clubs during the summer.

The Serbia international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of midfield player Jose Mourinho wants to target in the summer transfer window.

Jose Mourinho will reportedly be handed a huge transfer kitty this summer and the Chelsea defensive midfielder is thought to be among the manager’s priorities.
