Barcelona star Thomas Vermaelen is a target for Inter Milan in January.
Inter Milan are preparing loan move for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen, according to the football transfer rumours in Italian media.
The Belgium international was signed by Barcelona in August 2014 from Arsenal for a fee of 19 million euros. The 31-year-old has a valid contract with Barcelona until June 2019.
Since his arrival from Arsenal, Thomas Vermaelen has scored one goal in 22 games for Barcelona.
The 31-year-old is considered to be one of the best defenders in Belgium.
Thomas Vermaelen has represented Belgium at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 24 caps and scoring one goal, before making his senior international debut in March 2006. As a member of Belgium national football team, Thomas Vermaelen has won 63 caps and has scored one goal.
The 31-year-old is one of the more likely players to be offloaded by Barcelona this winter and the list of suitors in the Belgium international continues to grow.
Luciano Spalletti wants to sign a new defender this winter and Thomas Vermaelen is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. He is a long term admirer of Thomas Vermaelen and believes he can get the most out of the Belgium international.
Inter Milan will be in the market for just a handful of statement signings this winter who can improve the first-team.
The 31-year-old would be a very good addition for Inter Milan and they can afford him as well.

According to the report in Italian media, the Belgium international is closing in on a January loan move to the San Siro despite interest from Everton. The 31-year-old tried to leave Barcelona last summer but failed to receive any offers, with the Spanish giants looking to offload him permanently.
It will be interesting to see whether Inter Milan make their loan move during the January transfer window.
Thomas Vermaelen would reportedly be interested in a move this winter, but if Inter Milan do want him, they will have to beat those other interested clubs to his signature.
