Inter linked with shock Luka Modric move

It’s been a transfer window full of surprises, and Inter could be set to carry on this trend.

According to the football transfer rumours in Italian media, Inter Milan are linked with shock Luka Modric move.

The Croatia international was signed by Real Madrid in August 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of 30 million euros. The 32-year-old has a contract until 2020 with the club.

Modric has played 257 times for Real Madrid since signing from Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 13 goals and creating 40 assists in that time.

His record for Croatia is also impressive. Modric has scored 14 goals in 113 matches for Croatia at senior level.

Luciano Spalletti wants to sign a new midfielder and Luka Modric is at the top of his wishlist.

The Croatia international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of midfielder Spalletti wants to target in the summer transfer window.

Luka Modric has the talent to play many roles in midfield.

According to Football Italia (via Sky Italia, Gazzetta dello Sport and FCInterNews), “Multiple reports claim Inter are looking to pull off an audacious move for Real Madrid star Luka Modric. The midfielder was awarded the Golden Ball at the 2018 World Cup for his performances for Croatia, and is considered one of the best players in the world in his role. According to Sky Italia, Gazzetta dello Sport and FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri have contacted the agents of the former Tottenham Hotspur man, and they haven’t closed the door on a move. Any deal would prove very difficult, not least because of Modric’s salary, but the Beneamata are keen to try and make the deal happen. The transfer would serve as a response of sorts to Juventus’ capture of Cristiano Ronaldo, and with the arrival of Sime Vrsaljko, Modric would form a Croatian diaspora with Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic. It’s still more likely than not that Modric will sign a new contract with Real Madrid, but it appears there is genuine interest from the Nerazzurri.”

Real Madrid are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the midfielder, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.

Signing the 32-year-old in the summer transfer window would be a masterstroke from Luciano Spalletti.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Inter.

How strong that interest is and whether Inter will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
