Chelsea to make firm offer for Napoli winger Dries Mertens

According to the football transfer rumours in Italian Media, Chelsea will make firm offer for Napoli winger Dries Mertens.

The Belgium international was signed by Napoli in July 2013 from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of 9.5 million euros. The 30-year-old has a valid contract with Napoli until June 2018.

Since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven, Dries Mertens has scored 65 goals and provided 45 assists in 184 games for Napoli, including 31 goals and provided 14 assists in 44 games in all competitions this season.

The 30-year-old is considered to be one of the best wingers in Belgium.

Dries Mertens has represented Belgium at Under-17 level, winning four caps, before making his senior international debut in February 2011. As a member of Belgium national football team, Dries Mertens has won 57 caps and has scored 11 goals.

Euro Football Rumours understood that the Belgium international is close to putting pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him with Serie A club for the rest of his career. According to the rumours in Italian Media in the last few weeks there has been no movement on Dries Mertens agreeing a contract extension at Napoli, and he will be on the radar of many English clubs during the summer.
